The simple answer is that God chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It was God's choice to choose the Jewish people. We can't know all the reasons. God does tend to choose the opposite of what people would expect, though. He started with one man, Abraham (instead of choosing a large, strong nation). He chose Jacob (the second-born son) instead of Esau (the first-born son). I believe that God chose the Jewish people to be the nation from whom the Savior would be born.

Your blog titled "God" mentioned the Old testament God sounds like a feudal chieftan, and that he favors the Jewish people above others. I think the Bible sounds that way because it was written thousands of years ago (in an ancient culture). It was written by Jewish authors for Jewish readers. The Bible is God's word. But it was written by ancient, Jewish authors. I hope that helps.

Except for a mention in Deuteronomy Ch.7 (6-7)

De:7:6: For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

De:7:7: The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

De:7:8: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

You won't find anyother mention in this regard in Bible.

And the answer of Mr. Macikas contains the remaining. He chose the second (and the weak) son.

It is seen from bible that Jews were a persecuted people. No where welcome, enslaved.

History also shows how the Jewish people were ill-treated through out the millenniums.

God chose the under dogs.

But why Abram. He was not poor. Abram was moderately wealthy. His sister-wife was beautiful and he made a fortune using her.

(Even though he is the father of Jews, Arabs and Christians alike, his conduct of life’s affairs were not worth mentioning.

May be Mr. Macikas may be right. The answer lies in his second paragraph

Then we may have to find god from the bible. Because the god I seek is not a Jewish god. A Christian god either.

GOD

I am a Christian, Catholic, a practicing one. But it is hard to believe in the existence of god if you are rational. I used the term rational in the strictly verbal meaning. There are rationalists who blindly disbelieve in god.

I never saw a rationalist who has any doubts. They absolutely disbelieve in god, the same way my mother believes in god.

I too believe in god. Otherwise where I will seek a support when I need it. God is a crutch. A wall to guard your back when you can’t manage the attacks from all around you.

Well, this is not about why I need a god, but where I will put one. I am a reasonable kind of man. (Unless I am cornered and don’t have an option). Since, I need to believe in god, rather than I believe in god, I have to find some reasonable justification in doing so.

It is hard to believe that all this have been made in a snap, when I look up a clear sky and try to imagine and comprehend the number of terrestrial objects that I see in the sky and don’t.

When you are being overwhelmed with the implication of the sequence of your gene, it is hard to believe this was molded from clay.

If you read the Old Testament, I don’t think you will come out without change. God behaves like a feudal chieftain, who will support his serfs no matter what.

The Old Testament god is partisan, who have no sense of justice when it comes to non – Israelites. He might have created all, but he is partial to Israelites. All others are marginalized as hewers of wood and drawers of water.

Having read the bible, Old Testament, I do have to search for the real god in it. even though, it’s obvious that all the natural and super natural occurrences during the period have been accrued as the acts of god to facilitate the victory of the Jews, his chosen people, truth shines through.

And I believe I have a rational explanation to why it is so.

Election in India

Elections in India is a big party. The kind of party where you will have food, jokes, heady drinks, jokers, tipsy strangers acting as if they knew you all along, fire cracks, everything.


hereinafter all political (?) parties will be called parties only.


Since india have a multiparty system, we have a lot of parties competing for our votes. We have some national parties, more than one regional parties for almost all regional states. we have parties for almost all religious groups, castes, languages. We have parties that swear by socialism, communism, democracy, leninism, mavoism, revolutionary socialism. We have parties that does not proclaim but follows facism, fanatism, chauvinism. We have parties for most of the bankable stars in the south indian states of tamil nadu and andhra pradesh. We have parties that compete among themselves for winning the championship for chauvinism - religious, casteist, jender(male). We have nephew fanatic fighting uncle fanatic for the coveted post of the most fanatic. We have muthalik sena for hindu talibanism - IT IS A BIG JOKE.

But the big joke is on advaniji. LKGi Advaniji I mean. His utterence on issues sometimes are so childish, he shall hereafter be called LKGi. His last shot at the topspot is going to be a dud. Sexy sanyasin may finally support LKGi for the PM post, but she lost her deposit last time.

Sushma Swaraj is one lady, who survives by her tongue. yesterday she was in Orissa, loosing her control when she called Naveen Patnaik a traitor. The she continued with the harangue that once bjp is in power they will investigate and arrest the real culprits who murdered Swami Lakshmananda. All nuns beware. last time they investigated the murder under a nuns habit and the case is still dragging.

bjp had lost it. Now only a miracle can bring them back. Exit of Kalyan Singh is good for them, but it takes more than that to come back from oblivion. lets hope they rot. Who needs them back at the helm of affairs again.

Surprisingly, the third front is back in reckonning. With a line up like this, this front can take on congress. CPM, CPI, RSP(?), FB, TDP, JDU, BSP, AIDMK the line up is impressive.

But considering the debacle the CPM is in their bastions like Kerala and West Bengal, this election will not be rosy for the pink brigade.

In my opinion CPMs tally in the next Loksabha will be something like a dozen, give or take a couple. the implication of a result like this will be immense. Prakash Karat will be out. Yechury will be secretary. Pinarayi and co will be out

India is a land of contradictions.
there is a poem in malayalam, the language of kerala, the southernmost state of Indian, which says

india is a nuclear power
india is a space faring country

bobby jindal may happen to be the republican presidential candidate next time
vijay mallya might be showing his middle finger to the world after successfully bidding for the gandhi memorabilia. (he happen to be showing this to the indian government too).
indians are beating their chest for the slumdog millionaire.
during the pather panchali days none other than the great Nurgis (she was a film star, upper house member of indian parliament), criticised the film for showcasing indian poverty.
but now when the characters are dipped in shit, india say 'jai ho'.
rasool pookkutty though a muslim uttered the word 'OM' in his reply.
ar rahman chose love against hate (?) and did a dignified performance on stage but it was dannyboy who did the monkey act. was he doing it aka anglo/australian cricket fans while w.indies/indians play cricket.
anyway dannyboy is raking the moolah for his shitdip.
india is the land where budha was born. here jesus spent his youth to study budhist path. it was here gandhi lived and became mahatma. this country also gave birth to godse, who assasinated gandhi.
in india we find starving men, women and children. we find 50 of the fortune 500 too.

First Post

It is already 11.43pm. I dont think I will be able to write much today. Been travelling and attending a meeting today. Tired and sleepy. Have to get up at 5.00am for the morning walk. As a diabetic with High Cholestrol added in, I have to walk for keeping me on my legs.

I am afraid I have to sign off now.
